Ready To Jump Right In...

(Written Tuesday Instead of Monday)

I spent a lot of time preparing for my internship at Westlake, Reed, Leskosky* but I’m just ready to jump right in. I spent a decent amount of time talking with my sponsor and discussing rough plans but what I am most excited about is what I will learn by simply showing up on day one with a good attitude and an open mind. I want my essential question to be answered and my sponsor is well aware of that, but I also wanted to make sure that we were on the same page as far as keeping things loose and not necessarily concrete. Based on my conversations so far, I feel pretty good that this could turn out how I want.

This week, I feel confident and energetic as we’re approaching day one of projects. I don’t know a lot about architecture and with only (3/4 of) a high school education, I don’t really know that much about business in general. This project is all about me getting valuable experience. Ideally, I will spend more time learning and doing, and less time assisting (getting the coffee). Again, I’m really just excited to jump right in and see what happens.

*For those who are not familiar with Westlake, Reed, Leskosky, it is an architectural firm with its main location located in The Hannah Building downtown. They are the company working on designing a new high school for Hawken so that is where a lot of my interest in this project first came from. I talked to Mr. Looney about my interest well before he went public about the plans and to my surprise, he helped me make a connection with the firm pretty quickly.
