Working With My Hands

As my project progresses, I am finding myself starting to work more with my hands. I’m becoming more comfortable in and around the office and on the downtown Cleveland streets. My project is also starting to reach points where things need to be taken to new levels that I don’t necessarily know about and require the guidance of my sponsor and other architects. As I’m finding things continue to take off, I’m also enjoying the work that I’m doing with my hands.

I don’t need to go into the complex details of the design process and my current progress in general, but I’ll say that things are really taking off in a serious way. I’m doing things that I would never have expected to do in High School and it’s all coming at me so fast.

What I’m finding interesting at this point, more specifically, is how I like working with my hands. I’m getting to use advanced technology like 3D printers and laser cutters. I’m also building and moving around and getting out of the building. I still have lots of thinking and learning to do before I decide on my career and future, but so far in this project, I think that I’m learning that I really like working with my hands. As of now, I think that I can really see that being a part of my future. Working with my hands, I can visualize and feel. I know what I’m working with and I know how I’m going to manipulate it. As this internship continues, I’m excited to see what kinds of things will pass through my hands.

  1. What an excellent way to realize your own skills and inclinations. Can't wait to see what you end up creating through this project. Great job, Corey.

  2. Wow- it really does seem as though you are getting a lot out of your project! It is truly rare to get an authentic taste of something which you will potentially pursue later in life at this age (fail-safe environment, to boot). This experience will teach you a lot about yourself and your interests. I cannot wait to read about what else you learn!

P.S. I am extremely jealous of your access to laser cutters and 3D printers....

  3. It really seems you're enjoying your project Corey. I think it's still early to have a definitive plan for the future but it is important to start thinking of what you would like to do. I hope you'll get to do lots of fun and interesting thing as you have done!
