Swerving to Success

Our first day at Swerve was energizing!

We arrived at the studio and were immediately introduced to the President and COO   of the company. We were connected to Swerve’s Google drive folder, which means we now have constant access to excel spreadsheets of data concerning Swerve’s marketing efforts. Next, Amanda and I were briefed on Swerve’s founding principles— and brought up to date on their marketing strategies.

Chelsea (COO) and Eric (CEO) identified our tasks/duties, and goals to accomplish during our internship. Our assignment strictly pertains to marketing; however, we will have ‘business lunches’ with Eric, JH and Chelsea to learn more about the process of launching a startup (different subjects will be discussed on given days).

After our introduction, Amanda and I ventured into the streets of New York City to work on our first assignment. We spoke to doormen about residential marketing, and established athletic studios about effective marketing.  In getting into the field, we were able to collect valuable data concerning customer acquisition.

Swerve initially approached marketing/customer acquisition through the dissemination of fliers in residential buildings. In interviewing doormen in the neighborhood (“Flat Iron”), we learned that fliers are an extremely ineffective form of advertisement. We made sure to tell Eric, JH and Chelsea about this.

Through our interviews, we also learned about referral programs and discounts for people living in the tri-state area. As a result of our findings, Eric is looking into purchasing another chalkboard to promote awareness about Swerve perks (i.e. 50% off for every person a standing customer brings to Swerve).

Looks like we are swerving in the direction of success....
